Spin-a-Kid Song Review

Welcome to
Sundae Served Saturdays
where "Saturday is a special day, it's a day we get ready for Sunday!"

In our church everyone has a "calling" to which they are assigned.  We are set these jobs based on inspiration and need.  My husband and I have both been primary teachers since we moved here.   Usually married couples teach together, but they needed teachers so we separately classes between 4-6 and 8-11 year olds.  When we heard the military was possibly moving us they decided to release one of us so that when we did move they would only need to find one new teacher instead of two.

So, the ended up releasing me.  Sad day, cause I LOVED my calls.  That and my new calling is going to be a challenging.  You see, our Primary Chorister's husband has moved away for about 6 months trying out a new job.  She stayed here with the kiddos in case it doesn't work out and... she has family here to help her out a ton.   She has a sweet new baby girl who is sometimes is difficult to hold while leading music.  My new calling is....

Drum Roll please....

Holding the Baby!  See... I told you!  Hard right. HA HA HA!  Of course, if she needs to go out to nurse the baby then I will take over and lead the music, so I suppose I am more like her assistant/substitute if her kids happen to be sick.  Which, is exactly what happened two Sunday's ago!

Our primary chorister called to tell me her little boy was sick.  She gave me a list of songs she wanted the kids to review and what verses needed the most work.
Introducing...
Spin-A-Kid Song Review!
I actually got this idea from a leadership training meeting I had a few years ago.  I have been waiting and waiting to use it!  YEAH!
I pulled out a few pieces of plain card-stock and wrote different ways to sing on them.
The idea is to place all these squares facing down on the floor in a circle around a spinning chair.
Then you pick 2 kids, a spinner and a spinee.
The spinee keeps their feet together and you pick up the square they land on!
Simple, easy fun.

The kids had so much fun!  We ended up putting them in the Primary closet for future use!
The "Big Mouth" is where you sing while opening your mouth as big as you can!
The "One Big Breath" is where you sing for as long as you can with ONE BIG BREATHE!
The rest are pretty self explanatory.

This could be a good one to have on hand for emergencies!!!

When You Serve Our Dear Savior

Here is another song written for my little brother who is on a mission for our church.  Truely this song was written for him.  The lines about the family are...  ACTUALLY about our family.  He loves to tease us sisters (He poked my tummy 1 week after I had my third baby and said, "Wow... you are still fat!" Evil...)  My mom is not a pet person PERIOD and he has a beloved, and slightly insane, cat he left behind.  I think she may actually be part dog.  His signature meal is a Sausage Pizza from Shwanz.  He loves his family and is a VERY good brother.  He has made great plans for his future, but has been was WAY ready to leave and go on his mission for a while.  Anyways...  enjoy the song!

It is sung to the tune and music of "Once Upon a December" from the movie Anastasia.  I DID NOT write the tune, music or any of that stuff that could make me get sued.  LOL  I simple wrote the lyrics and sang along like Karaoke!

Here is a link to download the lyrics to "When you Serve Our Dear Savior".
(The link will take you to an external site.  Scroll down from there and the button to download is BELOW.  It only has a certain number of downloads so... PLEASE email me if it doesn't work!)

Also, please remember this is simply meant to be a fun song written for my brother.  It is NOT an amazing recording with WOW vocals.  I didn't even create the music, but...  I can sing in the shower pretty well and I love making silly songs for my little bro!

Hey Peanut Butter

Here is another song inspired by my little bro who is on a mission for our church.  In one email he sent he wrote about missionary budgeting and food skills.   He says,

"I bought a bunch of ramen noodles from walmart for like, 2 bucks, thinking i wouldnt' mind eating them for the next 2 years, which might be true, but if I eat more than 1 package a day it gets nasty fast... Peanut Butter and Jelly on the other hand. I can't get enough!! :P"

And so this song was born.  Now... I must stress that I am NOT a suprano nor a superb singer by any means.  However...  I wrote it and the song was good enough for my hubby and kiddos so... good enough for me!  Also.. I bought a mic for my computer which made it MUCH easier to record than the last one.  We are actually thinking of re-recording Mission President's Daughter because the sound quality is so much better on this song!

Mission President's Daughter

WARNING: I am a total novice on how to share downloadable songs.  If the link doesn't work PLEASE email me!  Sherbertcafe@gmail.com.

My brother is on a mission in Jacksonville Florida for our church.   I am always looking for fun things to send him.  Well, he requested some good music to listen too.  Some how the crazy music man ended up there with no tunes.  Seriously... he has about every song imaginable on his computer at home.  Anyways,  along with the classics, Mormon Tabernacle Choir CD's, I decided to write a little something of my own!  That being said... if you aren't LDS or have been on a mission, this song probably won't be funny to you.  Sorry!

Music Fishin'

Here's an idea I created for when our chorister isn't able to come last minute! Print, laminate, and cut out the fish and worms so they will last. On the fish write the names of some songs for review, on the worms write how to sing it! (Normal, opera, standing, humming....) Make a fishing pole by using a dowel, string and a magnet. I ended up using a kiddy Spiderman one. The senior primary loved it!
Stick a paper clip to the mouth of each fish and spread them out on the floor. Place the worms in a bucket! Have the kids draw out a worm first, because you can't get a fish without a worm. Last, let the kids fish away!
To download the fish click here and for the worms click here!
It may also be helpful to download the songs to CD. This way if your music leader doesn't come either you are covered! You came download primary music for free from the church website or just click here!
*I found the clipart by doing a Google search. I can not find the same art again to give credit, but trust me... I can't draw so they aren't mine!
