Shamrock Hair Large

This is pretty much line the Tiny Shamrock Pony, but...  BIG!
Start with hair in a pony on the back that is slightly wet.
Divide the hair into 4 sections and put elastics about  halfway down on three!
Then we are going to do the same split and twist thing as on the Mini Shamrock Hair.
Remember...  split the mini pony.
Flip the tail end up into the split.
And loop it through as many times as you need this time!  I did it about 4 times.
Remember doing this on the Tiny Shamrock?
This time I put each flipped pony up and...
Clipped it in place with a mini clip!  If I had all green I would have used them for the tutorial,  but...  Green didn't match her outfit that day and I didn't have green anyways!
I did that to all three mini ponytails and then secured the tail ends near the original pony with another elastic.
Then I covered the elastic with another mini clip!  See...  same thing as the Tiny Shamrock, but...   bigger!

Tiny Shamrock Hair Tutorial

Here is an easy Hairy Do for St. Patrick's Day!  We did this in a larger pony tail on the back, but... you could do an even smaller as a side half pony!
I started by putting most of slightly wet hair into pony on the back.  (Notice the little bit underneath that isn't in the pony...)
Then I seperated the hair in the pony into 4 sections.  Three mini ones got elastics placed about 2 inches away from the original elastic.  The rest of the pony hangs down to work with later!
Take each mini pony in turn and split the hair as pictured above.
Then flip the hanging hair up all the way through the spilt.
This will create 2 twists!
After putting twists in all three minis you are going to pushed the mini elastic up so it is touching the main portion of hair and the hanging hair is... hanging down with the original pony.
Here are all three stacked.  When I pushed the up I sorta arranged them to create a shamrock!  Hold the 3 mini tails like so and...
Place and elastic around them as close to the original as possible!  If you need to rearrange the mini ponies here you can so they create a shamrock shape!
It's cute right!  I love the dimension!
Here is a close up view of the front.  I love how it pops up behind her head so it looks like we stuck a shamrock in her ponytail!

St. Patricks Day Spell By Color

This is just something I drew super quick for my daughter to have some fun practicing her spelling words.  She seems to end up with an enormous amount of homework for a First Grader, but...  She is my first First Grader, so...  I dunno.  Anyways,  we are constantly coming up with fun ways to practice her spelling words.  I am going to do a bigger post on it next week, but wanted to share this little print out for you!

WARNING:  Incredibly untalented sketcher is about to share with you.  But... it's for kids and it's fun so be prepared to get over it quickly!
This is pretty much a color by number, but I added little lines so that you write each spelling word in a different color to fill in the picture!  For each line you switch and write a different word.  The point is to try and write the spelling words small.   I told her she could do this however she wanted.  I couldn't find her map pencils so we used crayons!  This would look super cool with little tiny spelling words all over it!

Use the sheet how you like.  Color by number, Spell by Color...  whatever!  Just a fun way so spice up some boring homework!  Obviously, Aurora's version is perfect!  (Forgive the tired look in her eyes...  this is after 1 math sheet, 1 book, and 1 other random homework...  add spelling on... is that to much?  I dunno.)

Pot 'O Gold I SPY

To start you will need 1 small jar, 1 jar gold glitter, and 3 jewels of each color of the rainbow.  1 needs to be smaller and the other 2 need to match in shape.

Shamrock Hair

I got this idea from my favorite hair blog, PrincessHairStyles.com. She did 3 petals... I attempted 4. It's much easier to do than it looks, but does take some time! To find her step-by-step instructions, click here! It's pretty much her heart hairstyle, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE! It stays in soooooo well AND it's cute!

Just click and it will download.  It is made to print front and back.  Then fold in half!  Good Luck!

Rainbow Ribbons

First get some rainbow colored ribbons ready! Mine were about 24 inches, but this will depend. Also... I did use the cheap ribbon that is about .47 per roll... I DON NOT recommend using the kind that has the cute loops on the sides. The caught in her hair and made it difficult!
Start by slicking back her hair and putting a half pony on the side!
Then thread the ribbon through on piece of the elastic. ( I don't tie it around cause it always seems to fall out of my little girls hair!)
Tie those into a tiny bow, leaving one streamer side REALLY long! The thread that through a plastic needle. I started with purple and worked backwards on ROY G BIV
Carefully weave the ribbon through her hair. Note: You don't have to try really hard to keep the spaces to even between the weaving. It's going to look amazing when you are done!
See! I told you! The ribbons stayed fine throughout the day just leaving the ends
loose. I even let her
sleep in it, just to see
how it would hold. Frizzy, but still stayed! I cause her hair is fairly fine and everything seems to fall out!

Our Tradition

Picture from Amazon.com
Now... remember this is St. Patrick's Day, so wearing green is a must! Not only will you get pinched if you don't but at my house it's worse! You see... Leprechauns love green and turn everything green. When you are wearing green it's like camo and they will NOT turn YOU green!

Now... that being said... First we put on the movie Darby O'Gill and the Little People. I know... it's strange, but there aren't that many St. Patrick's Day movies out there and for some reason this one interests my kids. I loved it when I was little too, so perhaps they truly get their weirdness from me! Or perhaps they also thinks it's funny to see such a young Sean Connery!

When they start getting into the movie I go to the kitchen to "start" lunch so we can have a living room picnic. Then I pretty much make lunch, but dye everything green I can. This way when I go back to the kitchen to get it I can say, "Oh NO! The Leprechauns were here! They got mad because they couldn't turn us green so... they turned the food green!" I remember falling for it forever more because I wanted to believe in the little green men than anything!
Food ideas I have done or remember my mommy doing!
Drinks: Green Milk, Green water, Green Lemonade, Sprite or 7-Up
Food: Cheese Quesadillas using the green tortillas, Sandwiches painted with green butter or cut into shamrocks
Sides: Pears, pistachio pudding, Picked out all the green fruit snacks, fish crackers or m&m's, green jell-o, pickles, broccoli (See my kids are weird! They would eat the Broccoli before the m&m's!)

We then spend the day painting little rocks gold and devising all sorts of traps. Every now and then I go behind my kids and take the rocks to make them think a Leprechaun out smarted them! I love celebrating!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!!

Rainbow Crayons

Ok... Wracking my brains on what to do for St. Patrick's Day, besides our usually family tradition which I will post later cause I'm to excited about these! I asked my 3 year old son and he handed me the crayons that came in his "lunch box" he purchased from the thrift store. He was confused why anyone would put crayons in a lunch box. Anyways... he said we could color a rainbow.... well... I took it one step further!

First I divided the crayons into separate color piles.

Next I unwrapped and broke them into smaller pieces. After which I placed them in muffin cups with double the paper in case the wax was... well... to waxy!

Then I put them into the oven preheated to 275. And we watched em melt!

This is the crayons at 8 minutes.

This is the crayons at 14 minutes! I actually walked away and came back and BAM! Melted crayons. Happened fast!

After letting them cool I popped 'em out of their muffin papers and TaDAAAAA! Giant Rainbow crayons. I actually think this would be MUCH easier with new crayons instead of recycled old ones. The papers were a pain in the patootie. I also think they would be fun with mixed colors instead of one color per cup. Then they would be easy for little fingers and much harder to break. I think the only thin bad about these crayons is the mess they would make if they melted in your car! I'm so gunna make these for our nursery kids!
