Reading Charts

We are military and, as such, we tend to move a ton.  This is the first time we have had to plan a move with little ones IN school.  Rgg..  I will be home-schooling a Kindergartner and a Pre-K!  I know...  I shouldn't be nervous, but I am.

Last summer I signed the kiddos up for a Summer Reading Program through the base library.  Now that they are both learning to read we go through our library books quicker than ever!  I decided to start charting their reading to help with some sort of structure for when we start "Home-school".

Apostle Handout

Today's lesson was on Apostles.  Part of the lesson asks us to show a picture of the current First Presidency and 12 Apostles.  I knew our library would only have one copy and I wanted to download a list of their names anyway.  We usually finish early (is it just me or do the New Testament lessons seem shorter than the Old Testament?)  Anyways.  I create a little handout for the kids.  I couldn't help myself.

Family Crossword Picture

Look what my amazing friend showed me!  Isn't she fabulous!  She was kind enough to let me pick through her stash of letters so I could create one too!  I LOVE how the letters pop with color.  Her husband is a photog fanatic so she has amazing photos with it too!  She deserves a prize!  lol

Hey Peanut Butter

Here is another song inspired by my little bro who is on a mission for our church.  In one email he sent he wrote about missionary budgeting and food skills.   He says,

"I bought a bunch of ramen noodles from walmart for like, 2 bucks, thinking i wouldnt' mind eating them for the next 2 years, which might be true, but if I eat more than 1 package a day it gets nasty fast... Peanut Butter and Jelly on the other hand. I can't get enough!! :P"

And so this song was born.  Now... I must stress that I am NOT a suprano nor a superb singer by any means.  However...  I wrote it and the song was good enough for my hubby and kiddos so... good enough for me!  Also.. I bought a mic for my computer which made it MUCH easier to record than the last one.  We are actually thinking of re-recording Mission President's Daughter because the sound quality is so much better on this song!

Pirate Treasure Sandwich!

So...  I saw a preview for the Pirates of the Caribbean 4 movie.  Apparently it was on my mind when I made lunch today!  Introducing Pirate Treasure Sandwich!!

Pot 'O Gold I SPY

To start you will need 1 small jar, 1 jar gold glitter, and 3 jewels of each color of the rainbow.  1 needs to be smaller and the other 2 need to match in shape.

The School Dress

This past week I bought my daughter a pack of cute tights at the Thrift Store, 5 pair for 3 bucks!  They were to cute to pass up!  In my defense I wasn't there shopping.  I was there putting things in consignment, but the thrift store here is a scary place to go.  I swear it's worse than Target or Michael's.  I ALWAYS find something I need.  Anyways...  In the pack were these cute teal tights, but she had nothing to match!  (Not in my head anyways.)   I have had this Maternity shirt in my refashion pile for a while.  I wanted to turn it into something for me, but it was just to perfect for those tights!  lol

Fruit Snack Printable Valentine's

Okay... I will admit to procrastinating on the class Valentine's, which means I'm even later in posting my idea to the blog!  Rgg...  Good news is that most people with kiddos have fruit snacks in the house!  So... this is a good idea if you planned it OR if you are in a last minute bind!

"If I Listen With My Heart" Activity Day

Since I painstakingly figured out a Heart Yo-Yo pattern I decided to take it to Activity Days and teach my girlies!  They have been asking to make hair pretties so...  I will admit that this Activity was totally based around the craft, not the other way around!

Easy Heart Yo-Yo Pattern

I decided that a more Valentiney craft was over due here at the Cafe.

I have seen those neat Yo-Yo makers at the fabric store.  I decided a paper pattern for a heart Yo-Yo couldn't be to difficult right?  WRONG!  I tried several different shaped hearts and none of them came out flat enough or heart shaped enough.  Apparently there is just the right shaped heart to make these!  LOL  You can imagine my frustration when AFTER creating my pattern I ended up stumbling upon one on the internet!  Rgg..

Capri Sun Belt

I think that the cold weather is getting me into gear for summer all ready!  I would say this is more of a summer project... but cause of the colors, but...  It's fun and cute and she LOVES wearing it to school!  Perhaps your kiddo hasn't quit grown into those pants your bought at the beginning of the year as fast as you hoped?  LOL

Shabby Fabric Flower

I made several hair flowers for a friends birthday and I was trying to come up with something different.  I kinda... Shabby Flower!  This one is so easy it's ridiculous.
